7 reasons to visit Bucovina in the next vacation

Also called “Europe in Miniature”, “Beech Country” or “Switzerland of the Orient”, Bucovina promises a successful holiday no matter how many days you spend in its land. Most churches and monasteries on the UNESCO list and the oldest wooden church (Putna – 1346) are generously housed in northern Moldova, in Bucovina. To which is added the house of the much loved Ion Creanga from Humulesti. In a sedan or a spacious SUV we will set off on a long journey on a trip to Suceava County.
The Citadel of Suceava
Our journey starts from the city of residence of Bucovina, right from the Citadel of Suceava. Built in 1388, the Citadel of Suceava was the residence of the rulers of Moldavia for 200 years, starting with Peter I Musat.
Situated on a hill, the fortress offers a panoramic view of Suceava, being a place loved by photography lovers. The original fortress was destroyed in a fire in the 17th century as a result of an attack by the Ottoman army. Currently, the reconstructed fortress is included on the list of Historical Monuments in Suceava and can be visited by the public.
Hanul Domnesc
With a history of over 500 years, built in the seventeenth century, the inn embodies the traditional residence for those times, when the rulers and merchants were hosted. Currently the building is part of the Museum of Bucovina.
The Museum of the Bucovina Village
It shelters traditional houses present in the villages from the Bucovina area: church, water mill, pub, households, some of them with folk costumes on display.
Gura Humorului
The small town of Gura Humorului is the meeting place for some of the most important tourist attractions in Romania: Voronet Monastery, Humor Monastery, “Ciprian Porumbescu” Memorial House being on the honor list. And for those who prefer outdoor activities, near Gura Humorului there is the Piatra Pinului and Piatra Soimului Nature Reserve and the “Escalada” Adventure Park.
Voronet Monastery
The blue of Voronet could be the color of the city of Gura Humorului. Nicknamed the “Sistine Chapel of the East”, Voronet Monastery is one of the jewels of the Crown of Moldova. This place of worship attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.
Built during the reign of Stephen the Great, in 1488, the Monastery kept its murals on the walls inside the monastery and, especially, on the outside. Currently the Monastery is included in the UNESCO Heritage list.
Museum of Popular Customs from Bucovina
The museum is unique in Romania, being the only museum in the country dedicated to the popular customs from the 19th century in the Bucovina area. The visitor is carried through a virtual calendar of well-known holidays: from Saint Andrew, to Christmas or New Year and the Epiphany, Sanziene or various holidays dedicated to agricultural activities. The exhibits present scenes specific to each event from a traditional household in the villages of Bucovina.
Vatra Dornei
“Pearl of Bukovina” is preferred by lovers of mountain sports and those who want a relaxing vacation in a resort with thermal waters. Calimani National Park, Zugrenilor Gorges and forest reservations are on the list of tourist attractions to visit in the Vatra Dornei area.
