General Car Rental Questions

What are your renter requirements for renting in the Romania?

To rent a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Romania, you will need the following:

  • To be 21 years old
  • A valid driver’s license
  • An ID (For example: an identity card or a passport)
  • Credit or debit card

What forms of payment are accepted for renting a car?

Enterprise accepts the following forms of payment:

Credit Cards

Credit cards are accepted at airport and non-airport locations in Romania.

  • VISA®
  • MasterCard®
  • American Express®

Debit Cards

Debit/check cards are any non-credit cards bearing the VISA® or Mastercard®. Prepaid cards or any other non-credit cards without one of these logos are not accepted.

At airport locations, debit cards are only accepted at the time of rental if accompanied by a ticketed return travel itinerary. The name and address shown on the renter’s driver’s license must match their current home address. If using a debit card for any amounts owed, the available funds in the account associated with Renter’s debit card will be reduced by those amounts.  Additionally, Renter is responsible for any overdraft fees incurred.


For security reasons, many Enterprise branches do not accept cash payments; however, some branches may accept cash at the end of the rental for final payment after the vehicle has been returned. Check with your rental location to see if the rental location accepts cash at the end of the rental. We apologize for any inconvenience.

What are your driver license requirements for renting in Romania?

Customers who reside in Romania must present a valid, unexpired government-issued driver’s license. Digital licenses are not accepted. The driver’s license must be valid for the entire rental period.

International renters traveling to Romania

The following practices are used to ensure the customer is presenting a facially valid license at the time of rental.

Customers traveling to Romania from another country must present the following:

  • Their home country driver’s license that is valid, unexpired and includes a photograph. Digital licenses are not accepted
  • In order to drive a motor vehicle on Romanian territory, persons who hold a national driving license issued by the authorities of a country that is not a member of the Convention on Road Traffic and not a member of the European Union or with which Romania has not concluded a treaty on mutual recognition of driving licenses must also hold an international driving license.   • Customers may not rent a vehicle solely with the International Driver’s Permit. The International Driver’s Permit is a translation of the individual’s home country driver’s license and is not considered a license nor is it considered valid identification.

Please Note:

  • Photocopies of driver’s licenses are not accepted
  • Any license which, on its face, restricts the licensee to the use and operation of a vehicle equipped with a form of a breathalyzer apparatus is not accepted
  • Temporary driver’s licenses may be refused if the renting location is unable to otherwise verify the customer’s identity or verify the authenticity of the temporary license. Additional government-issued identification may be required.

What are your age requirements for renting in Romania?

The minimum age to rent a vehicle with Enterprise in Romania is 21.

Is a car rental deposit required?

Yes, a deposit is required to rent a car from Enterprise. The deposit amount varies by location. To find out how much a deposit would be for your trip, start a reservation below. The cost of the deposit will be stated under the Renter Requirements section.

Can I add an additional driver to my rental? (Romania)

Any additional driver will pay a daily fee. Any additional authorized drivers must appear at time of rental and meet age and driver’s license requirements.

An additional charge/per day for each additional authorized driver will be added to the cost of the rental, unless other contractual conditions apply.

An additional driver may only be added to the contract at a rental location and may be added or removed in the middle of the contract. When adding an additional driver in the middle of the contract both the renter and the additional driver must be present at the location. The system will calculate the charges based on the dates the additional driver was listed on the rental.

All additional drivers must:

  • Meet age requirements
  • Appear at the rental counter with the primary renter
  • Present a valid driver’s license
  • An additional daily fee may apply for any additional drivers listed on the rental agreement.

How do I change or cancel my reservation?

Enterprise Car Rental Cancellation and Change Policy

If you have already picked up your vehicle: If you have already picked up your vehicle and wish to keep it longer; you must contact the location where you picked up the vehicle.

If you have not picked up your vehicle: If you have not picked up your vehicle you can view, modify, or cancel your reservation by clicking here. When visiting this page, you will need to make sure all fields are filled out. If you fail to enter in your confirmation number, first name, and last name — the reservation will not be found. If you have entered in all this information correctly and still cannot modify your reservation, please contact us.

If you modify your pick-up or drop-off location, date or time, this may result in a change to your rates, taxes, surcharges, or underage fees. Please see your new rate quote when you verify your reservation.

Will my rate change if I modify my reservation?

Possibly – rental rates can change on a daily basis so changing the dates or number of days may change the daily rate.

Reservations booked on a third party website must be canceled through the third party website. Reservations agents cannot change reservations booked on these websites nor can you cancel them on the Enteprise.com website. Please return to the website where you originally booked the reservation.

What if my flight is delayed? – Airport Rental Locations in Romania

Reservations are valid for 24 hours from the scheduled time of pick-up for delayed flights and charges will not begin until the time of pick-up.

Location will remain open for up to 2 hours after their posted closing time to accommodate delayed customers.

When booking your reservation on-line or with an agent include your airline and flight information. Providing us with your flight information allows us to serve you better.

Can I return my rental vehicle if the Enterprise location is closed?

Airport locations will allow returns after hours and will have procedures in place for your early or late return. Please check with the rental location when picking up your rental vehicle for exact procedure. Many branches located at major airports are open 24/7 for your convenience.

Please Note: Vehicles should be returned to the same location where picked up unless prior arrangements have been made with the original renting location.

If you drop off your rental vehicle at the airport but did not originally pick up your vehicle at the airport, an additional drop fee may be charged.

I want to return my car early, is there a penalty to do so?

At Enterprise, we do not charge customers more for returning a car early, and you will only be charged for the days you had the vehicle

Will there be an additional charge if I am late returning the rental vehicle?

Great news! There is generally a 29 minute grace period for daily rentals.

If the vehicle is returned within 2 ½ hours of the time it was rented on a subsequent day, additional hourly charges will apply. Hourly charges for your location and rental can be found on your rental contract.

If you return the vehicle 2 ½ hours or more from the time it was rented on a subsequent day, you will be charged for an additional day of rental.

Please Note: A vehicle that is returned after hours will not be checked in until the next business day. If returning after hours when a branch is closed, the customer is responsible for the vehicle until the satisfactory check in of the rental vehicle the next business day.

Do I need to refuel the vehicle before returning? Can I pre-pay for fuel?

As a customer, you have a choice as to how you would like to pay for fuel.

You may refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level you received when you picked up the vehicle, or if you choose not to refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level, you will be charged the local Enterprise rate which is typically above the local pump price.

You may opt to pre-pay for fuel — Pre-pay gives you two conveniences:

You can avoid the hassle of having to fuel up the vehicle before returning.

Pre-pay fuel option is calculated at the local rate of gas minus a per liter discount.

Note: Prepaid fuel is only sold in full tanks at the discounted price per liter and is not refundable. Local fuel rates will vary by the area you are renting a vehicle.

What is your pet policy?

Pets are allowed in rental vehicles. Customers need to keep pets crated and return their rental car in clean condition and free of pet hair to avoid cleaning/detailing fees. Service animals used by customers with disabilities are allowed in the vehicle without a carrier.

What is a car rental drop charge?

A drop charge is a fee for picking up a rental car at one location and returning it to a different location. The rental car drop fee varies depending on location and time of year. If you have to pay a drop charge, it will be disclosed at the time of reservation.      

How much is a rental car deposit?

A car rental deposit is required in order to rent a car from Enterprise, but the amount varies based on region. For the most accurate pricing, we recommend starting a reservation below.   

How much is a rental car?

The cost of a rental car depends on many factors and can vary greatly. These factors include:

  • The length of time you are renting the car
  • Car class selected
  • Rental location
  • Added insurance or protection products
  • Additional products selected
  • If you have to modify your reservation
  • If you have to extend your reservation
  • If you have to change your rental drop-off location

For the most accurate pricing, start a reservation.

How do I rent a car?

To rent a car from Enterprise, do the following:

  • Visit our reservation page
  • Type in the location you want to pick up/return your vehicle
  • Enter your departure date and return date. Then select “See vehicles.”
  • Next, choose the type of vehicle you want for your trip.
  • Add any additional items to your rental, like Sirius XM radio or a child car seat.
  • Review your reservation, add in your contact information and confirm your reservation by clicking “Confirm.”

What should I do if I get in an accident in a rental car?

1. Find a safe place to stop the vehicle.

2. Call the local police to report the accident and get a police report.

3. Contact the Enterprise branch from whom you hired the vehicle and provide details of the accident and any collision damage.

If the branch is closed, call roadside assistance on +4.0722.397.855, available 24/7.

What is the Enterprise car rental scratch policy?

Minor damage to a rental car, such as scratches, dents, or a chipped windshield are covered by the Damage Waiver. The Damage Waiver is an optional protection product you can purchase with your car rental.

If you choose not to purchase the Damage Waiver and the car gets damaged, you may have to pay out of pocket for any needed repairs. Your personal auto insurance may or may not cover the cost of repairs, so it is best to contact your insurance provider before renting a car.

What should I do if my rental car breaks down?

If your rental car breaks down due to a mechanical failure and it is not drivable, be sure to get to a safe place out of traffic. Then, call Roadside Assistance at +4.0722.397.855 and they will help you with the towing process.

What is an International Driving Permit?

An International Driving Permit (IDP) translates your government-issued driver’s license into 10 languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, German, Arabic, Italian, Swedish and Portuguese*. *Source: American Automobile Association (AAA)

Is an International Driving Permit the same thing as an International Driving License?


Where do I get an IDP?

In every country there’s at least one authority that can issue an IDP, like Automobile Associations and other.

How do I get an IDP?

You can apply for one in-person or order one by mail. For more information, contact your local authority.

What do I need to apply for an IDP?

When applying for an IDP, you need to have:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • The permit fee
  • 2 original passport-type photos
  • The International Driver’s Permit Application

What are the requirements for an IDP?

You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license issued by authorities in your country.

How long does it take to get an IDP?

It will take 5-10 minutes to fill out the application, and you can expect to receive your IDP in approximately two weeks.

How long does an IDP last?

An IDP is valid for a period of one year from the date of issuance. You must apply for a new IDP each year.

IDP Tips:

  • You must carry both your IDP and your driver’s license when driving abroad.
  • You must obtain your IDP in the same country that issued your driver’s license.
  • You can never use your IDP to drive in the country in which it was issued.

Does Enterprise offer Unlimited Mileage on Car Rental?

Unlimited mileage is available for most car classes in Romania.

Am I allowed to take my rental vehicle into a bordering country?

It is not allowed to drive/relocate the vehicle outside the borders of Romania without written authorization in physical format or transmitted in electronic format from Enterprise Romania and without payment of the corresponding additional fees.

Can I rent a 9 Passenger Van from Enterprise?

Yes, you can rent 9 passenger vans from Enterprise Romania.

Can I rent a commercial Van from Enterprise?

Yes, you can rent commercial vehicles from Enterprise Romania.

Does Enterprise rent additional equipment such as child safety seats or GPS?

Most Enterprise Locations offer the following equipment at an additional per day charge: Child Seats, GPS/Navigational Systems, snow chains.

What is car rental insurance?

Car rental insurance is a protection plan that safeguards you and the vehicle in the event of a collision, theft, and more. Enterprise also offers roadside assistance to help with incidents such as lockouts or lost keys.

Do I need car rental insurance?

You are not required to purchase car rental insurance when you rent from Enterprise. If you are interested in purchasing rental car insurance and additional protection products, we have several options to choose from to best fit your needs.

What is a damage waiver and how does it work?

The short answer:

  • It protects you in the event of accidental damage
  • It’s included in the cost of your hire
  • Additional protection products are available

The long answer:

Damage Waiver protects you in the event of damage to or theft of the vehicle and lowers the amount you are liable for. It may be included in the cost of your hire and have an excess dependent on the vehicle category. It means your financial responsibility is limited should something go wrong. If you want to reduce the Damage Waiver excess you can purchase additional protection products. Roadside Assistance Protection is also available and reduces your financial responsibility for the following – damage to tyres and glass except when part of a larger repair, replacement keys costs and all recovery and call out charges imposed by our chosen roadside assistance providers as a result of a fault caused by renter error.

Before purchasing any coverage products, it is advisable to determine if a personal coverage is adequate to cover these charges. However, the renter will be required to pay any applicable charges and seek compensation from the carrier of personal coverage.

Car Rental Citations and Tolls

Why did I get a citation? How do you know that I generated this violation or toll?

This notice was sent based upon information provided to us, as the registered owner of the vehicle, from a municipality or toll road authority. The information – based on the date, time and vehicle – indicates that you were the renter.

How can I pay my citation or toll?

If you paid for your car rental with a credit card or debit card, we will directly charge that credit or debit card listed on your rental agreement. There is no need to do anything else.

Can you send me the actual violation or toll notice?

The letter we sent you includes details about the date and time, as well as the location of the incident. However, since we typically receive only electronic notifications – which reduce processing expenses and time delays – paper copies of tickets or violations generally, are not available.

Why am I being charged now after my rental period has ended?

We depend on government and toll agencies for all information related to tolls and other violations. In most cases, that takes one to four weeks – although, in some circumstances, it may take even longer. Our goal is to notify you so that you are alerted as soon as possible. Under the terms and conditions in your rental agreement, you are responsible for all costs, fines, violations and tolls – as well as an administrative fee we charge for processing and billing.

Why am I getting multiple bills for the same rental period?

Our billing system notifies you about each individual toll or violation.

Does Enterprise have a lost and found?

Please be assured that we make every effort to hold items that are left behind; either in a rental vehicle or at one of our locations.

How can I get a copy of my receipt?

You will need to contact the office that you rented the vehicle from and they can send you a copy of your receipt.

How do refunds work with the different methods of payment?

When you arrive at the branch to pick up your vehicle, we collect the full cost of the rental and a security deposit. The amount of the deposit will vary, based on the cost of the rental. Once you return the vehicle, the branch will refund your security deposit in full, unless there are additional unplanned charges – such as fuel replacement, vehicle damage or a late return.

The time it takes to receive your refund is based on the method of payment used to pay for your rental.

Security Deposit Refunds for Credit Card

If you pay by credit card, the full cost of the rental and the security deposit will be authorized on your card when you pick up your vehicle. When you return the vehicle, we immediately release the authorization and only charge your card the full amount of the rental.

Security Deposit Refunds for Debit Card

If you pay by debit card, the full cost of the rental and security deposit will be charged to your checking account when you pick up your vehicle. Once the vehicle is returned, Enterprise will refund your checking account the amount of the deposit.

The time it takes to post the refund to your account will depend on your bank. Typically, you should see a refund in approximately 5 to 10 business days. If you do not see your refund after 10 business days, please call the branch you rented the vehicle from, so we can review your charges with you.

Security Deposit Refunds for Cash

If you pay with cash, any funds owed to you will be refunded by bank order and mailed to you within 20 business days after we confirm there are no additional unplanned charges – like fuel replacement, vehicle damage or a late return.

How many Enterprise Plus points does it take to earn a free rental day?

The amount of points required will vary based on the rental details you provide.

To determine how many points are required for a specific rental, once you have a points balance on your account, login to your account, enter your rental details, and click on redeem points button before selecting your car class.

How do I request missing points if I forgot to provide my Enterprise Plus number?

Good news! You can request missing rental points up to six months after your return date, as long as the return date was on or after your enrollment date.

Now, let’s get those points added for you. Follow the instructions below.

You will need the following information:

  • Reservation or Rental Agreement number,
  • Pick-up location,
  • Pick-up date, and
  • Return date

If you do have all of this information:

  • You will need to login to your Enterprise Plus Account or click on ‘My Account’.
  • Then Select, ‘My Rewards & Benefits’.
  • After the ‘My Enterprise Plus’ page appears, scroll down and click on ‘Request Missing Rental Activity’.
  • You will then be redirected to a missing rental activity form, complete the form and hit the submit button.
