THE MOST LOVED PLACES IN ROMANIA
Remember what it was like to go out in a group for a cup of mulled wine? Or how we used to go to Vama on May 1st to party with friends? It seems like a century ago, doesn’t it?
Today we’re reminiscing because we know that soon everything will return, little by little, to normality, and we secretly hope this will happen by summer. 2020 has been a tough year and it’s still following us in our new ways of managing and spending our holidays, but one thing remains certain – traveling is much more fun by car!
Let’s see – what were the top destinations before the craze?
#1. VAMA VECHE
A classic – we all know about the famous Vama and May Day getaways, don’t we? Even though this location is basically in Constanta, Vama has been and will remain a place with a difference. It may not be a place so rich in sights, but we all know that in Vama you don’t generally go for historical places, but for relaxation and fun.
If you still get bored and decide to go for a walk the Histria Fortress and the Callatis Archaeological Museum are great choices.
#2. BRASOV
The second top location is, of course, Brasov. With a wealth of historical monuments, amusement parks, ski resorts, and more, Brasov is one of the most popular holiday destinations! The historical center of Brasov is itself an architectural gem, so at every step, you will be able to admire buildings, statues, and historical locations that have been carefully preserved.
#3. MANGALIA
And again we meet at the sea! Apart from sunbathing, swimming, and partying “by the sea and the sun”, you can visit one of the most modern harbors in Romania, inaugurated in 2011 – Marina Mangalia Tourist Port. Not only that, many other dream locations are waiting for you such as the Archaeology Museum “Callatis”, the Byzantine Building, the Geamia “Esmahan Sultan” and the Marine Museum.
#4. DANUBE DELTA
Are you passionate about fishing or do you enjoy boating at sunset (or sunrise)? Then Delta is for you.
Here you can not only admire thousands and thousands of species of trees and birds, but you can also visit the only sand forests in the country: Letea and Caraorman – here you can also find the oldest oak tree in the country, about 400 years old, also called the “Kneeling Oak”.
By the way, did you know that the Danube Delta is the only Biosphere Reserve in its entirety and that it is included in the World Cultural Heritage List?
#5. SIBIU
Declared the Romanian Capital of Culture in 2007, Sibiu fully deserved this title. This city is full of history and cultural monuments – the National Theatre “Radu Stanca”, the State Philharmonic Sibiu, the Evangelical Cathedral, the Orthodox Cathedral, the Reformed Church, the Synagogue, and the 8 cultural centers are just some of the top tourist attractions!
