The Tripadvisor community voted the best “gastronomic destinations” in the world, and Rome is in the first place, along with 3 other destinations in Italy. Who can refuse a portion of pasta with truffles or a pizza with Parmigiano?

Crowning the best food destination in the world is a controversial endeavor. Whether it’s the Michelin-starred restaurant streets of San Sebastian, the cultural fun of New York City or the regional delights of Lyon, the world has too many top food destinations for just one to come out on top.

But that hasn’t stopped the online review site TripAdvisor from making its list of the world’s best dining destinations for 2023. It’s all part of TripAdvisor’s “Travellers’ Choice: Best of the Best” series, which essentially ranks destinations by quantity. and the quality of reviews from the last 12 months.

According to TripAdvisor, the best food destination in the world is… Rome! Italy’s capital is a sure bet for gastronomic delights and has been awarded points for everything from its oxtail and roasted artichoke stews to its fresh pasta and creamy gelato.

Second, on the list was the Greek island of Crete, and third was Vietnam’s Hanoi.

Here are the top ten dining destinations for 2023, according to TripAdvisor.

Colosseum

Pantheon

An ancient Roman temple dedicated to “All the Gods”, the Pantheon is one of the best-preserved buildings in ancient Rome and continues to inspire visitors to this day. It was built by Emperor Hadrian in 125 AD. on the site of a former temple built by Marcus Agrippa and boasts the largest (unreinforced) dome in the world.

The Vatican

Founded by Pope Julius II in the 16th century, the museums house one of the largest and most important art collections in the world and are set in 54 galleries, courtyards, and halls. You’ll find thousands of ancient sculptures, works by Raphael, and of course, frescoes by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel.
