5 road trip ideas in the country
Given the current circumstances, one of the safest travel options is a road trip in the country. We have often “skipped” opportunities to explore more beautiful places and landscapes in Romania, but now it is the best opportunity to reconnect with them. And since safety measures remain a priority, our recommendation is to set off with a rented, extremely safe car. Let’s see where:
Danube Delta
Although it is a well-known destination, we add the Danube Delta to the list of places that everyone should visit at least once. The Delta is not only inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, but in addition to the beautiful landscapes that you should not miss, you will find 30 European protected habitats. For those who want to explore the Delta in detail, we recommend Green Village 4 * Resort as an accommodation option, a complex suitable for both adventurers and those who want a short break from the hectic life.
Gura Portitei
If you are close to Danube Delta, you can also find a retreat at Gura Portiței, a beach which is still wild and sparsely populated by tourists, but also a place with great potential, being called by visitors “a little corner of heaven”.
Viscri, Brașov
Viscri was named one of the most beautiful villages in Romania, hence the large number of visitors curious about the things that the small Transylvanian land has to offer. Approximately 30,000 Romanian and foreign tourists visit it annually, being also listed in the UNESCO World Heritage as a protected place, thanks to the fortified church located in the area. Viscri is perfect for those who want to relive an authentic rural experience, from accommodation to meals offered by locals.
Oradea
An increasingly preferred option for tourists in terms of urban destinations is Oradea. The city center, recently rehabilitated, is extremely attractive with its Art Nouveau instagrammable buildings and many tourist attractions. If you are planning a road trip here, do not forget to list Oradea Fortress or Nymphaea Aquapark and Baile Felix for a visit.
The Vaser Valley
We end our list of recommendations with a place located in the heart of Maramures, on the border with Ukraine. Once here, you can try a walk with the Mocănița (steam train) on the Vaser Valley, on a route that starts at an altitude of 400 meters and crosses the virgin forests in the vicinity, in a wild and beautiful area, without other access roads.
One thing is for sure: each destination brings unforgettable new experiences. If you have been or plan to embark on a road trip this summer, the list of destinations is still open. Tell us what wonderful places in the country you have on the list, so that we can inspire others together.
