Hiking destinations to reach by car
More and more people are using mountain climbing as a form of disconnection and return to nature. Some practice it as a lifestyle and have already formed a habit out of it, others are rather interested in that beautiful landscape at the top.
In our country there are many areas for short hikes, from easy levels for beginners to medium or high difficulty level. And since these routes start from key points that are difficult to reach other than by car, we also recommend a road trip to the starting point that will make your trip even more exciting!
So, what uphill routes do we recommend?
Izvorul Muntelui – Dochia Cottage
It is a route for beginners in the Eastern Carpathians, lasting about 4 hours, passing through Curmătura Lutul Roșu. After climbing through the forest, in the middle of the route is Toaca Peak, the right spot for a short rest is Piatra cu Apa. It is an easy route, suitable in any season.
Poiana Pelegii – Gura Apei
Also among light routes, we recommend the hike in the Retezat Mountains, through the forest road that passes through the Socului riverbed to the Stănuleţilor River and is marked with a blue dot. Even if it is an easy route, it is not recommended in winter because the unfavorable weather conditions could have beginners on the hip.
Ghețari village – Scărișoara Cave
You can easily reach by car Ghețari village, in Alba county, and then continue the route on foot to Scărișoara Cave. We are talking about a light 30-minute route through the woods, which will take you to the largest underground glacier in the world, which offers you as well the chance to admire the local beautiful landscapes.
Bușteni – The Valley of Jepii Mici – Caraiman Cottage – Babele Cottage – Peștera Hotel
Moving on to more difficult routes, we bring to the list the one which starts at the Paper Factory from Bușteni and ends at Hotel Peștera. The main attraction of the road is the Valley of Jepii Mici, a difficult section of the road, with rugged terrain which requires adequate equipment. The route is usually completed in about 6 hours.
Rotunda Pass – Șetref Pass
For those who are really passionate about adrenaline and mountain landscapes, the route from Rotunda Pass to Șetref is a 56-kilometer road that can last up to 24 hours, with a descent from 1284 m to 818 m altitude, with possible stop at Rotunda Cottage.
